Trunyan Village & Abang Mountain Trek — Full Day Private Tour

Highlights
Tour Overview
This is Bali’s most immersive sunrise trekking experience, combining two legendary volcanic peaks in a single day. Begin at the historic Trunyan Village cemetery on the shores of Lake Batur, then summit Abang Mountain (2,152m) — the highest peak in the Batur volcanic complex — for 360° panoramic views over all of Bali.
Trunyan is one of Bali’s oldest Bali Aga (original Balinese) villages, renowned for its unique open-air burial custom. Your private guide will walk you through the cultural significance before the ascent to Abang — a longer, more rewarding trek with remarkable biodiversity and views that stretch to the sea.

FAQ
How difficult is the Abang Mountain trek?expand_more
This is a challenging full-day trek requiring good physical fitness. The Abang ascent involves several hours of sustained uphill hiking on steep, forest trails. Guests should be comfortable walking hours continuously. Prior trekking experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
What makes Trunyan Village unique?expand_more
Trunyan is a Bali Aga (indigenous Balinese) village that has never adopted Hindu-Balinese customs. Their burial tradition involves placing bodies on bamboo platforms beneath the sacred Taru Menyan tree, which absorbs any odour. It is a rare, respectful insight into pre-Hindu Balinese culture.
Can I combine this with the Mount Batur trek?expand_more
We recommend doing this tour on its own as it is already a full hour day. For multi-day exploration, this pairs well with the Jeep Tour on the following morning.
What is the best time of year for this trek?expand_more
April to October (dry season) offers the clearest summit views. The trek runs year-round, but wet season if possible too, you can bring morning mist and reduced visibility at the summit.

Booked as a couple for our honeymoon. The guide made us feel special the whole time. The boat crossing at dawn across Lake Batur, the ancient cemetery, the 2,152m summit — each moment was distinct and memorable. This tour has a completely different character from the standard Batur trek. If you want the authentic, off-the-beaten-path Bali experience, choose this one.

I almost cancelled because of a cloudy forecast but the guide reassured me and I am so glad I went. Clouds cleared at the summit and we had crystal clear views. Full day experience felt well-paced — never rushed. The guide was a storyteller as much as a trekker. Both breakfasts included and they were genuinely good food. Premium tour, premium experience.

Went with my wife for our anniversary. We are both keen hikers and wanted something beyond the standard Batur trek. This delivered completely. Trunyan village is one of the most unique cultural experiences in Bali — the guide explained everything with deep respect and knowledge. Abang summit views are on another level. Mount Batur, Mount Agung, the lake, the sea — all visible. Worth the premium price.

Hardest tour I have done in years but also the most rewarding. The Abang ascent is serious hiking — be prepared. Our guide was exceptional: set a sustainable pace, shared detailed knowledge of Trunyan culture, and got us to the summit exactly at golden hour. 360-degree views with no other people around. Breakfast at Trunyan Hill was delicious and the perfect way to fuel up before the big climb.

This is not a tourist-trail experience — it is the real deal. The boat crossing to Trunyan at 2am with nothing but stars above was haunting and beautiful. The cemetery was respectful and fascinating, not morbid. Then climbing Abang with a private guide and having sunrise entirely to ourselves on the highest peak in the area — absolutely priceless. Do this tour.
